The RT-08MF extends an 8-inch rugged Android tablet with optional NFC, UHF, fingerprint, ID card, and QR scanning modules for field data collection and equipment integration.

RT-08MF 8-inch Android10/13 Rugged Tablet

Why Modular Functions Matter in Rugged Tablet Deployment

A rugged tablet does not always need the same combination of functions for every project. A technician checking equipment may need QR code scanning, while a warehouse worker may need UHF RFID reading. A security application may require fingerprint or ID card verification, while a medical workflow may use NFC for identification or information access.

This is where a modular device architecture becomes useful. Instead of selecting a separate terminal for each task, an 8-inch rugged tablet can be configured around the actual workflow.

The RT-08MF is designed with this type of flexibility in mind. Along with standard communication and computing functions, it supports optional GNSS, fingerprint, NFC, HF/LF, UHF, ID card, and 1D/2D scanning modules. These options allow the same basic hardware platform to be adapted for different projects without changing the overall tablet form factor.

The tablet uses an MTK8788 octa-core processor with a 2.0 GHz main frequency and supports Android 10 or Android 13. Memory configurations include 4GB + 64GB and 8GB + 128GB, providing a practical foundation for applications that combine device control, data collection, wireless communication, and field software.

NFC and HF/LF Modules for Short-Range Identification

NFC is useful when information needs to be read or exchanged over a short distance. In practical deployments, it can be used for identification, access-related tasks, asset confirmation, or interaction with compatible tags and cards.

The optional NFC and HF/LF module on the RT-08MF supports standards including 14443A, 14443B, 15693, and 125K, with customized modules also available for specific identification requirements.

This gives system integrators more room to match the tablet to existing identification infrastructure.

For example, a field worker could use the tablet to confirm an asset before starting an inspection. Instead of manually entering an equipment number, the worker can read a compatible tag and then open the corresponding record in the Android application.

The advantage is not simply faster identification. It can also reduce manual entry errors when technicians are working with large numbers of equipment records.

UHF for Longer-Range Item Reading

NFC is designed for short-range interaction, while UHF is more suitable when multiple tagged items need to be identified from a greater distance.

The UHF options available for the RT-08MF include a PR9200-based configuration with a stated reading distance of approximately 3–5 meters and an R2000-based configuration with a stated distance of approximately 10–15 meters. Actual performance depends on the antenna, tag type, installation environment, and surrounding materials.

This makes UHF relevant to applications such as inventory checking, asset tracking, warehouse operations, equipment identification, and material management.

Consider an equipment storage area containing many tagged items. With a conventional tablet, an operator may need to approach each item and scan it individually. With an integrated UHF module, the workflow can be changed to read compatible tags from a greater distance and transfer the collected information directly into the application.

For projects that involve frequent asset identification, this can make the tablet more than a display and data-entry device. It becomes part of the identification system itself.

Fingerprint Modules for Identity Verification

Some field applications require more than simply opening an application with a password. The operator's identity may need to be associated with a specific inspection, transaction, or access event.

The RT-08MF supports optional fingerprint modules, including standard fingerprint configurations as well as public security and FBI fingerprint options.

The exact fingerprint configuration should be selected according to the software platform, authentication requirements, and project environment. When integrated correctly, fingerprint recognition can provide a more direct method of associating an operation with a specific authorized user.

For example, a mobile inspection application could require an operator to authenticate before submitting a maintenance record. In another deployment, fingerprint verification could be combined with other identification methods for controlled access.

Because the fingerprint function is integrated into the rugged tablet platform, users do not necessarily need to carry a separate biometric terminal alongside the computing device.

ID Card Reading for Dedicated Identification Workflows

The device also supports a built-in second-generation offline ID card module. This can be useful in applications where identity information needs to be read directly rather than manually entered.

A typical workflow could involve an operator verifying an individual's identity, retrieving the relevant record, and then completing the required task within the same Android application.

This type of integration can be useful for public service, security, inspection, and other mobile workflows where identification is an important part of the process.

The value of the module is particularly clear when the tablet is being used as a complete mobile terminal rather than simply as a ruggedized screen. Identification, application processing, communication, photography, and record submission can be handled from one device.

QR Code Scanning for Direct Data Capture

QR and barcode scanning is another practical option for the RT-08MF. The tablet supports optional 1D/2D QR code scanning modules, with customized scanning modules available for other requirements.

QR codes are already widely used to identify equipment, work orders, locations, documents, products, and service records. Integrating the scanner into the tablet can simplify workflows that would otherwise require a separate handheld scanner.

For example, a maintenance worker can scan an equipment code, open its service history, record inspection results, take photos, and submit the completed information without switching between multiple devices.

The 8-inch display also provides more working space than many compact handheld terminals. Operators can view forms, equipment information, images, and instructions while using the scanning function.

Combining Multiple Modules in One Device

The real value of the RT-08MF is not limited to any single optional module. Different modules can support different stages of the same workflow.

A warehouse application, for instance, could use UHF for asset identification and WiFi or 4G for database synchronization. A security workflow could combine fingerprint recognition with an ID card module. A maintenance application could use QR scanning to identify equipment and the camera to document its condition.

The tablet provides several interfaces for connecting to surrounding equipment, including USB-A, USB-C, Micro HDMI, a 100 Mbps network port, a 12-pin Pogo Pin, SIM card slot, and TF card slot supporting up to 1TB. This makes it easier to build the tablet into a larger equipment or terminal configuration.

Its 5MP front camera and 13MP rear autofocus camera with LED light can also support image documentation when visual records are part of the workflow.

Rugged Hardware for Field Deployment

The modular functions need to operate on hardware that can handle field conditions. The RT-08MF uses a dual-color molded enclosure and provides IP67 protection. It is specified for operating temperatures from -20°C to 60°C and storage temperatures from -30°C to 70°C.

The device also has a stated 1.2-meter drop resistance on a composite wood floor and supports MIL-STD-810H certification. These characteristics are relevant when the tablet is used outside controlled office environments.

The 8-inch LCD can be configured with 800 × 1280 or 1200 × 1920 resolution, while brightness options include 500, 800, and 1000 nits. The 10-point capacitive touch panel has 7H hardness, with customizable anti-glare, glove-touch, and wet-hand touch options.

For mobile workers, these details matter because an integrated scanning or identification function is only useful if the tablet itself remains practical to operate in the working environment.

Building the Right Configuration for the Application

Not every project needs every module. The configuration should start with the workflow.

If the main requirement is item identification at a distance, UHF may be more relevant. If the application involves short-range card or tag reading, NFC or HF/LF may be more appropriate. If user authentication is required, a fingerprint module can be considered. For equipment records and work orders, QR scanning may provide the most direct workflow.

The RT-08MF gives integrators the option to combine these functions with Android software, wireless communication, cameras, storage expansion, and multiple physical interfaces. This makes the tablet suitable for projects where a standard consumer Android device does not provide enough integration flexibility.

Fushizk Technology Co., Ltd. focuses on rugged computing tablet development and combines embedded system development, AI algorithm optimization, and wireless communication technology. The company has applied for more than 50 patents and maintains annual R&D investment above 15%, supporting customized rugged tablet development for different application requirements.

For system integrators and project developers, the key consideration is therefore not simply whether a rugged tablet has NFC, UHF, fingerprint recognition, or scanning. It is whether those functions can be integrated into one practical mobile computing platform. With its range of optional modules and rugged hardware configuration, the RT-08MF provides a flexible starting point for building that type of field terminal.
